The Haitian Revolution created the second independent country in the Americas after the United States became independent in 1783. The Haitian Revolution has often been described as the largest and most successful slave rebellion in the Western Hemisphere. Slaves initiated the rebellion in 1791 and by 1803 they had succeeded in ending not just slavery but French control over the colony. The Revolution was led by these brave men/warriors Toussaint Couverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Henri Christophe, Alexandre Petion and other fearless soldiers such as Capois Lamort and Benoit Batraville to name a few.
